LINKING OF PAN WITH AADHAR

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) vide its notification dated 13 February 2020 has prescribed that the PAN allotted to person will be made inoperative if not linked to the Aadhar number before 31 March 2020. However, the due date has been extended till 30th June 2020.
Hence, you are hereby requested to link your PAN with AADHAR immediately . In case, you have already linked the same while filing your Income tax Return last year, you can ignore this.
If you have not linked or not sure whether you have linked or you haven’t yet linked the same, please follow the below process
Note: If you don’t link your PAN with AADHAR, your PAN will become in-operative. 
In case of inoperative PAN, income tax will be deducted @ 20% or at a higher rate applicable to you under the relevant provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961.

Enter the details requested on the page and click on “Link Aadhaar” button.
Step 3:
In case you have linked your PAN with Aadhaar earlier, the page will show the following message – “Your PAN is already linked to the given Aadhaar Number”.
Step 4:
In case you have not linked the PAN with Aadhaar earlier, an OTP would be triggered to the registered mobile number. Once you enter the OTP details, your PAN and Aadhaar would get linked and confirmation message will be shown on the screen.
If you are unable to link your PAN with Aadhaar by logging in at the income tax website, you can do this through a simple SMS as well. You just need to send SMS on 567678 or 56161. Format of the SMS is UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><SPACE><10 digit PAN>.
The Due date for PAN -AADHAR linking is 30th June 2020.

1. What happens if you don’t link Aadhaar card with PAN card?
The current income tax laws state that if you fail to link Aadhaar card with PAN card, the latter will become ‘inoperative’. The income tax department had earlier announced that any PAN that is not linked will be declared as “inoperative.” Now, in its latest notification, the IT department has clearly mentioned that such PAN cardholders shall face consequences under the Income Tax Act.
2. What could be the consequences? 
      You won’t be able to use your PAN card from July 1 onwards. This means that it can assumed that you failed to furnish the document and a penalty of Rs 10,000 may apply as per Section 272B of the Income Tax Act. 
      However, the transactions done in the past using it will remain valid. Once you link both the numbers after the specified deadline, your PAN should become active. “
